Breaking Ground on the Town of Lynnfield Public Safety Renovation & Reconstruction

With the recent groundbreaking of the new public safety renovation and reconstruction project, Lynnfield residents and employees alike will soon see a fully modernized public safety complex that will better serve the town’s needs.

The Town of Lynnfield officially broke ground on the public safety renovation and reconstruction project, marking the beginning of an important construction project that will modernize and upgrade the current fire and police stations and Town Hall.

“On behalf of the Select Board, we are pleased that construction has begun on this important project,” Select Board Chairman Joe Connell said. “The first responders of Lynnfield deserve the safe and equipped facilities needed to save lives every day. The citizens and dedicated employees of Lynnfield deserve an accessible town hall to perform the people’s work. We will deliver a public safety project that is on time, on budget, and that will be a symbol of pride for our community for years to come.”

The renovated and expanded public safety complex at the Town Hall site on Summer Street will feature modern facilities for Lynnfield Police and Fire, as well as making Town Hall accessible for all residents. The proposed new facilities will solve numerous issues that presently affect the police and fire stations. Currently, the police station has inadequate lobby space, an undersized communications center, and outdated radio equipment. Additionally, the police station suffers from inadequate and unsafe space for holding or moving prisoners through the station.

Lynnfield Police Chief Nick Secatore said, “The Lynnfield Police were excited to see work begin on the project. We are anticipating our return to the new building and using the new facilities. We are grateful for the support of our residents and all those on the project team.”

The new Fire headquarters, which is currently located at the Town Hall/Public Safety Complex on Summer Street, will be relocated to a new facility on the current site of the South Fire Station at the intersection of Salem and Summer streets. The new facility will feature improved equipment storage and decontamination space, as well as adequate accommodations for both male and female firefighters, which the department’s current headquarters and South Station facility lack.

“The entire Lynnfield Fire Department is excited to see the construction portion of the public safety building project get underway,” Lynnfield Fire Chief Glen Davis said. “The project will improve the health and safety of all Fire/EMS personnel. We would like to thank the residents for their ongoing support of our police officers and firefighters.”

The Town of Lynnfield is overseeing the construction and project coordination in partnership with PMA Consultants. The town project team includes Select Board Chairman Joe Connell, Fire Chief Glen Davis, Police Chief Nick Secatore, DPW Director and Town Engineer John Tomasz, Town Administrator Rob Dolan, and Capital Program Director John Scenna.

After the design, completed by the project’s design architect, Tappe Architects, was approved, the Town of Lynnfield solicited bids from contractors and selected Commodore Builders as the project’s construction manager. Commodore Builders is a veteran-owned construction management firm focused on eliminating surprises and executing with excellence across diverse markets across the Commonwealth.

Construction on both sites will be completed concurrently over the next 21 months. Occupancy of the Fire headquarters is planned for mid-November 2025 and of the Town Hall public safety site for mid-December of 2025.

During the course of construction, Town Hall departments will be temporarily shifting locations. Please visit the Town of Lynnfield’s website for where to find important town offices.
