Welch School’S interior work is done

Peabody School Committee member Beverley Griffin Dunne has reported that work inside the Welch School Elementary School building is finished.

Griffin Dunne said at a School Committee meeting last week that exterior work on the school, which will include landscaping and paving, will begin at the very beginning of April.

“A huge amount of the work will be completed over the April vacation and then the Welch School will be done,” Griffin Dunne said. “It’s a nice feeling.”

In 2019, the district submitted the statement of interest to partner with the Massachusetts School Building Authority to help fund the project. Griffin Dunne said at the meeting that the district is working on getting the figures from the construction companies it works with in order to get the reimbursement figure from the MSBA.

“The numbers, all being crunched, there are certain things that have to be done for the MSBA process,” Griffin Dunne said.

Griffin Dunne said that there are some project tasks that are not yet finished because they are treated separately from the project, such as the roofs.

“We will be dealing with that (the roofs) shortly, but nothing definitive has happened yet as far as what we’re going to do to repair the Welch School roof,” Griffin Dunne said. “But it’s still on the radar.”
