Balloon bonanza headlines upcoming events at the Peabody library

Ever thought about how to get creative with balloons? Peabody Institute Library will teach kids how to twist balloons into fun shapes on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. The teacher Jonah Twists will guide children in this workshop on manipulating balloons.  It is open to ages seven and up. Registration is required. Spaces are limited to 12 children. Please call or cancel your registration online if you can not attend so that another child may attend from the waitlist. 

Thursday, Jan. 26

Baby Storytime

You’re never too young for Storytime. Join Miss Jenny for stories, songs, and sensory play that helps babies develop language, social, and motor skills. Registration is required due to space limitations of up to 15 spaces. The event is from 10 -10:30 a.m. at the Tech Lab. The program is geared toward parents and caregivers of children up to 18 months.

Toddler Storytime

For parents and caregivers with children ages from 18 months to three years, Miss Jenny will guide toddlers and their parents and caregivers through stories, songs, and lots of movement that help build important social and early literacy skills. Registration is required due to space limitations of 18 to 20 spaces.  The event is from 11 – 11:30 a.m. at the Tech Lab. 

TACO Thursday 

Earn community service hours by participating in Teen Advisory and Community Organization, or as we like to call it, TACO. The foodie event is from 4 – 5 p.m. in the Teen Room. Each Thursday,  teens can come and help better the Peabody Institute Library. Teens will be given tasks that help the library in some way. As compensation, teens receive one hour of community service credit and a free taco on the first Thursday of the month. Please fill out a teen volunteer application at the start of this program. Registration is not required. If you have questions, please email Teen Librarian Allison at abridgewater@noblenet.org. 

Drop-In Crafts in the Children’s Room

Come to the Children’s library for a different craft each week from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Supplies are provided. No registration is needed. 

West Branch Historical Nonfiction Book Group

Are you interested in Historical events? Do you want to learn more about worldly events? This month’s historical nonfiction read will be at the West Branch Library in person from 7 to 8 p.m. It will focus on “Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden, and pick up the next read. Duct Tape Bags

Make yourself a bag that is stylish and durable using only duct tape from 3 to 4 p.m. Supplies will be provided. For tweens and teens in grades six to 12.

Zoom English Conversation Circles – Beginner/Intermediate

Conversation Circles are free, volunteer-led sessions that provide weekly opportunities for non-native English speakers to practice basic conversational English in an informal setting.  Sessions are designed to increase participants’ comfort level when using English and increase vocabulary and knowledge of American culture and customs.  To improve pronunciation and learn idiomatic expressions.  Some English speaking skills are necessary to participate.  The meeting focuses on topics of practical interest such as shopping, ordering food, finding a job or an apartment, hobbies, or current events. Little Groove: Baby Wiggle

Come hear live guitar and music ––Baby Wiggle presented by Little Groove–– for kids from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to kids ages 0-4 years old. Registration is required. LGBTQIA+ Teen Hangout

Teen members of the LGBTQIA+ community are invited to hang out in the teen room on the final Monday of each month to meet like-minded friends, enjoy some snacks, and share experiences from 4 to 5 p.m. This event is open to tweens and teens in grades six to 12. Registration is not required.

Open Lab

Have a personal project you’re working on or one you want to start? Stop by the Lower Level any time during this period to use any of the tools available at the Creativity Lab. We have tools for 3D printing, sewing, sound recording, laser cutting, woodworking, computer programming, vinyl cutting, jewelry making, graphic design, electronics, and more. A librarian will be available to help you learn any unfamiliar tools. The lab will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Karen Grenier Concert

Somerville singer-songwriter Karen Grenier continues to make her mark as both a gifted songwriter and crafty lyricist. Her music resonates in the heart, leaving listeners anticipating the next song and humming her catchy melodies. A former guidance counselor for Peabody Public Schools, Grenier is currently the Elementary Dean of Students for Somerville Public Schools. “You’ve got to reach for your dreams and do what you love,” she says, it’s an attitude I’ve always tried to inspire in my students. Grenier’s concert will feature her original work along with a few favorite songs that have inspired her along her path from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more info about Grenier or to listen to her music, check out her website: http://www.karengrenier.com/.

Free COVID-19 Vaccine/Booster Clinic & Blood Pressure Screenings

Day change of the free COVID-19 free weekly COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic in partnership with Mass General Brigham and the Peabody Health Department from every Wednesday to this Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. Insurance is not needed, and no one will ask about your immigration status.
