North Shore Navigators seek host families

The North Shore Navigators are seeking families from all over the North Shore to host the team’s players for the upcoming season.

The Navigators are a summer collegiate baseball team for players who aspire to play the sport at a professional level. The team primarily plays at Fraser Field in Lynn.

“We reach out to the community and ask them to open up an empty bed or bedroom,” North Shore Navigators Executive Director Derek January said. “In return, what they get from us are lifetime experiences and relationships, more than the small stipend that they get, season tickets and merchandise.”

January said that finding host families has been a bit more challenging since the COVID-19 pandemic began, but he is confident that the team will get enough host families this season.

“I always tell host families to be careful when they join,” January said. “Because they end up doing it for a long time. They develop these relationships with the players and often the players’ families as well. We’ve had a host family from 10 years ago go to a player’s wedding.”
