Resident wins $1 million in lottery

Sean Salvati, of Peabody, is the winner of a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s 100X Cash instant ticket game, converting a 1 in 1,612,800 chance of turning $10 into the second-largest potential payout in the game.

Salvati opted to receive his prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000, before taxes. He said he plans to use some of his winnings to buy his mother a car.

He purchased his winning ticket at Gulf Express, 160 Andover St. in Danvers. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The long odds Salvati faced to win the $1 million translate to a roughly .0000062% chance.

In order to win money on the scratch tickets, players must match any of their 15 numbers or one of five bonus numbers to one of six winning numbers. If they uncover a 5X, 10X, 20X, 50X, or 100X symbol, their prize will be increased by 5, 10, 20, 50, or 100 times. If they uncover a money-bag symbol, they win all 20 prizes shown on the ticket.
