20th Taste of the Town has a ’20s twist

The Rotary Club of Peabody’s biggest annual fundraising event returns on March 19 for its milestone 20th anniversary.

25 local restaurants will cater this year’s edition at Danversport Waterfront Venue from 6 to 8 p.m.

“The goal is always around 25 restaurants, and that’s to give a nice assortment and variety while also making sure there’s enough space for everybody,” Rotary Service Coordinator Stephanie Johnson said. “It could be from Chick-fil-A all the way to maki sushi.”

In celebration of the event’s 20th year as well as the Rotary’s more than 100-year existence, Taste of the Town is slated to have a 1920s theme.

“The whole theme is going to be the ’20s, but also the end of the Prohibition,” Johnson said. “We’re trying to get everyone to have that sort of speakeasy vibe.”

She added that a signature drink will accompany the theme.

The night will also include additional fundraising features such as an auction, the sale of $20 “mystery bags” that contain a minimum value of $25, and multiple beer and wine raffles. The night will end with the drawing of a $10,000 grand prize, for which only 300 tickets are available.

Johnson said she is expecting more than 400 community members to attend.

Taste of the Town has traditionally funded scholarships for high school students, meals for people with food insecurity, the revitalization of Peabody playgrounds, and education and literacy projects throughout its history.
