Walsh donation drive ends in success for Ronald McDonald House

CHARLESTOWN — State Rep. Tom Walsh, through his annual can-tab and household item drive, contributed needed household items and more than 35,000 can tabs collected by more than 50 participants to the Ronald McDonald House Charities New England.

Walsh was welcomed by Interim CEO Tina Ledo and her leadership team at the Ronald McDonald House Charities New England location in Charlestown last Tuesday to make the donation.

“I’d like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in this summer’s donation drive. I am blown away by the generosity shown by so many and the stories behind their involvement,” Walsh said in a statement. “I am proud to partner with RMHC-NE knowing the positive impact they have on families who rely on the charity’s assistance while their child undergoes vital medical treatment at hospitals in Boston and Rhode Island.”

“We are grateful to Rep. Walsh and the Peabody community for collecting pop tabs and much-needed Wish List items. Pop tabs may be small, but they add up and make a big difference for the families who call RMHCNE ‘home’ while their child receives medical care. The money raised from recyclable aluminum tabs are essential to our family-centered care programs and allows us to keep families close to their children being treated in our local hospitals,” Ledo said in the statement. “We have an ongoing Wish List that allows us to provide the comforts of home to our families. Supporters can purchase items and ship them directly to us through our Amazon Wish List.”

The Ronald McDonald House Charities New England provides lodging and hospitality, home-cooked meals, and family-oriented activities for families from across the globe during the duration of their child’s treatment at world-renowned hospitals.

The aluminum pop-tabs collected by Ronald McDonald House Charities are recycled with the proceeds of the scrap value remitted to the charity and the earnings used toward programming.

Walsh’s annual can-tab and household item drive operates every summer. If you are interested in participating, contact Walsh at tpw6@comcast.net.
