Lynnfield Middle School selected to be part of Celtics Foundation and Project 351 Playbook Initiative

Superintendent Kristen Vogel shared that Lynnfield Middle School has been chosen to join the Celtics Foundation and Project 351 Playbook Initiative.

The superintendent said that LMS had applied to participate in the project and was selected as one of 24 schools in Massachusetts.

“Two of our high-school students and Project 351 ambassadors will be doing the training for our middle-school students,” Vogel said in a School Committee meeting last month. “They will be attending this coming Saturday a full-on all-day training at Auerbach Center in Brighton.”

According to the Boston Celtics’ website, Project 351 supports diverse ambassador leaders working toward positive social change. Boston Celtics players and alumni have collaborated with ambassadors for the past decade, focusing on leadership and community building.

The partnership expanded in 2019 to support the Playbook Initiative, an anti-bias and anti-discrimination program promoting shared values and a vision for strong, just, and inclusive communities.

Throughout the last two years, according to the website, the Celtics Shamrock Foundation and Project 351 have worked together to enhance the Playbook Initiative through a cohort of high-school alumni trainers.

These trainers, who the website said were selected for their commitment to social justice and inclusion, underwent workshops, training, and mentorship by Celtics and Project 351 staff. They gained facilitation and mentorship skills to engage more than 650 middle-school students in collaboration with a committed school district. The initiative aimed at fostering candid dialogues and awareness among middle-school participants, equipping them with the courage and tools to intervene in challenging social situations positively.

“Inspired by the example of Celtics players, coaches, and staff, youth committed to lead as upstanders and bridge builders,” the website said.

According to the website, the collaboration between the middle school and the Celtics Foundation’s Project 351 Playbook Initiative marks a significant step toward creating a more inclusive and socially responsible environment for students in Massachusetts.
