A deep dive into the Pioneers selected as Item All-Stars

This month, the 2022 Item All-Star ceremony took place at Lynn City Hall, and several members of Lynnfield Athletics were announced as fall all-stars – the best of the best. Each all-star received a plaque as they walked on stage, followed by a group photo with fellow all-stars. Fall all-stars are as followed:

FOOTBALL

James Sharkey – Sr.

The numbers say it all for the Pioneers’ two-way star. He made 80 tackles alongside seven interceptions. He also ran for nearly 400 yards and collected nine touchdowns on the season.

BOYS SOCCER

Alex Gentile – Sr.

The center-midfielder scored 21 goals this season while dishing out nine assists. Gentile tallied an eye-catching four goals in the state tournament, and was first team all-league, an EMASS all-star, and all-state.

Dillon Reilly – So.

Reilly had 23 goals this season to lead all CAL players in the category – on top of eight assists. The Pioneer was named first team all-league, and EMASS all-star, and scored a pair of goals in the state tournament.

GIRLS SOCCER

Ally Sykes – Jr.

Sykes was named an Eastern Mass second team all-star and a first team all-star in the Cape Ann League. The junior played virtually every minute of every game – either in center midfield or center defense. Sykes has tremendous vision, organized the team extremely well, and was also named the Pioneers’ team MVP this year.

VOLLEYBALL

Brent Ashley (Item Coach of the Year)

With Ashley at the helm, the Pioneers went 20-4 this season. His energy, teaching ability, and on-court coaching inspired his team, and what a special season it was. Lynnfield defeated South Shore Christian, Rockland, and Nantucket to advance to the Final Four of the Division 4 tournament.. When asked how he felt after being eliminated by Joseph Case, he responded by saying, “you can’t be sad if you never give up.”

Ella Gizmunt – Sr.

Ella Gizmunt helped lead Lynnfield to a 20-4 season and a semifinal appearance in the Division 4 state tournament. During the regular season, Gizmunt snagged her 1,000th kill of her career in a 3-0 win over North Reading in October. Gizmunt finished the season with a team high 419 kills and 120 aces. She was also third on the team in digs with 240.

Celia Carbone – Sr.

One of the best playmakers in Pioneer history. Carbone set the Lynnfield record for assists in a game against Masco with 42 on October 7, and was named a first team Cape Ann League all-star for the second year in a row. Also this season, Carbone recorded her 1,000th career assist – a record you’d have to see to believe it.

FIELD HOCKEY

Julia Carbone – Sr.

Carbone Led the way for the Pioneers with a team-high 12 goals and 11 assists. The senior forward captain earned Cape Ann League first team all-star. Carbone will be continuing her field hockey career at Assumption University next fall.

Ava Marotta – Sr.

Marotta earned Cape Ann League first team all-star honors, and the senior midfield captain was also a key member of the defensive corner team, which allowed only nine goals on 126 attempts this year. Marotta was an integral part of the midfield defensively and in offensive transition.

Charlotte Radulski – Sr.

Radulski recorded 95 saves on the season with an 85 percent save percentage. The senior goalie orchestrated 11 shutouts, and averaged 1.4 goals against per game. Radulski also earned a Cape Ann League Second Team All-Star selection.
