Lynnfield municipal offices on the move

This month, town offices and departments are moving to temporary locations in preparation for the construction of new public-safety buildings.

This week, the Accounting Office moved to the Merritt Center, 600 Market St. (second floor). On Friday, Nov. 17, the following offices will move from Town Hall to the Senior Center Building at 525 Salem St.: Treasurer/Collector, Assessors, Town Clerk, and Payroll/Human Resources.

On Monday, Nov. 27, the following offices will be relocating to the former Village Pharmacy space at the Center Stores, 590 Main St.:
Planning/Conservation, Public Works, Board of Health, and Building Inspector. The offices of the town administrator and Select Board will move to the second floor of the Center Stores.

Select Board Chair Joe Connell praised Department of Public Works Director John Tomasz for his work organizing the moving process.

“He has been doing an absolutely magnificent job,” Connell said. “He has been massively putting this plan together, getting all the right contractors for HVAC systems, plumbing, and working on the ADA-compliance regulations to get the move completed in time.”

The staff will operate in the temporary offices for about a year and a half before moving back to the original locations, which Connell said will undergo a complete redesign.

“The old offices were in buildings that were built in the late 1960s,” Connell said. “They are no longer compliant with the regulations and needs of today. The Town Hall building is not ADA-compliant, there’s no elevator.”
