Dear Neighbors,
The wonderful thing about living in a community as vibrant as ours is the power we have to do great things when we come together and share ideas, create, dream, and learn. The problem is, for all our town’s wonderful features, we have one great shortcoming: we lack a public community space large enough and modern enough to serve as a hub for all.
The new Lynnfield Library is that solution.
I am writing on behalf of the Lynnfield Moms Group Board to urge you to vote to accept the $9M MBLC grant at the Town Meeting on Monday October 16th.
The new library will be a place to go to meet a friend, take a class, or work remotely in a breathtaking setting surrounded by nature. Somewhere kids and teens can head after school to do homework together, chat, or work on group projects without interrupting other adults who may be reading or working. The new design incorporates a defined young adult space indoors, a secured courtyard for teens, study rooms, and a creative/tech lab!
Raising young kids can be lonely and the library’s new children’s space will allow for additional child-centered programming and meet-ups; somewhere to bring the kids to learn, explore, craft, read, and move around indoors and out (in the designated outdoor courtyard for kids!) while meeting other parents and caretakers.
The library will also have after-hours access and meeting rooms, something that we know our group (the Lynnfield Moms Group) and many other groups in town will take full advantage of. We would be able to partner with the library to run additional book clubs, playgroups, and parent meet-ups. The library will serve as a community hub, connecting many generations and providing the space and resources for our community to demonstrate our investment in connection, future generations, and life-long learning.
As a mother of three young children, I understand the desire to keep our taxes in check. I also believe in investing in our future. This library is an investment in the betterment of our community. Our current library has held on for as long as it can, but we cannot retrofit the over 150-year-old building to meet the needs of a 21st century town. Now is the time to invest in our future and build a much-needed town space that provides many amazing enhancements and spaces for our community members of all ages.
Newlynnfieldlibrary.com is a wonderful resource if you are interested in more information. Please join me at town meeting on October 16th in voting yes!
