Northshoremen Chorus to Offer Free Singing Lessons

Are you a man who loves to sing in the car? Have you sung in a high school chorus, community theater, or church choir? Well now you can turn your love of singing into a great hobby!

“Give us three Wednesday evenings, and we’ll give you the skills you need to experience the fun of solo or group singing,” says Paul Beausoleil, musical director of the Northshoremen Chorus. The course, called “Ready, Set, Sing,” is taught by Danvers Middle School music teacher Billy Carleton, a  graduate of the University of New Hampshire’s outstanding music education program. Both beginner and experienced singers are welcome, and all learning materials are free. Advance registration is recommended.

The next series of Ready, Set, Sing classes will take place at 7 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church, located at 46 Cherry Street, Danvers, MA, on Nov. 1, Nov. 5, and Nov. 8.

“We’ll teach you everything you need to know to sing richly and produce great harmony,” says Beausoleil. “You’ll soon be enjoying the ringing of beautiful a cappella chords and the company of a great bunch of fellow singers. And you don’t need to know how to read music to participate.”

The Northshoremen Chorus is a chapter of the 26,000-member Barbershop Harmony Society and has experienced great success in recent years. In 2019 and 2023, it was named the Northeastern District Patriot Division Most Improved Chorus. In 2021 it was named the Patriot Division Small Chorus Champion and in April the chorus qualified to compete at the district competition this October in New Hampshire.

The chorus always welcomes new members.
