Fundraising campaign for new Lynnfield Veterans Memorial underway

A campaign to raise $50,000 for the construction of the new Lynnfield Veterans Memorial is currently underway. The Veterans Memorial Committee has raised $34,000 through donations made by the town and is currently seeking more contributions.

Select Board member Joseph Connell has been on the committee since its inception seven years ago.

“When the town asked me if we can raise $50,000 for the new Lynnfield Veterans Memorial, I said sure, of course we can,” Connell said. “We have been putting out ads in the paper, asking for donations.”

Connell said that the committee also put out flyers when the tax bills went out in June to all the residents of Lynnfield. “Since then, people have been giving us a lot of donations,” he said.

The committee is aiming for the construction to be completed by Nov. 11, 2024, which happens to be Veterans Day.

“We are going to pour the concrete wall this month and the granite plates are being cut as we speak,” Connell said. “The stone wall will sit by itself for a bit and then the concrete will take some time, but we anticipate everything to be completed by 2024.”

Connell said the efforts of the town and their contributions have made this project a success.

“Every 15 days, I get an update of the new donations made,” Connell said. “I try to recognize the effort people took, and I write handwritten notes to each of those people for their contributions.”

The Lynnfield Veterans Memorial is still seeking donations. To help expedite the process, an online account has been established on the town’s website.
