Village Home & Garden Club presents “Your Body in the Garden”

Anyone who has ever attempted gardening knows it is demanding on the body on account of raking, pushing soil around, pulling weeds and lots of time spent on one’s knees.

On Monday, May 8, the Village Home & Garden Club of Lynnfield will offer gardeners a chance to now only grow a greener thumb, but learn how to mitigate the tolls gardening can take on the body.

Susan Guest will be the featured speaker. Guest is passionate about both gardening and living a long, healthy life. She will discuss ergonomic tools, modifications, time management, and other strategies that will maintain health and vigor for long-lasting gardening.

A certified fitness instructor of conscious movement classes for ten years who taught dance and tai chi, Guest has been actively gardening her own plots since 1983 and worked on an organic farm for two years.

The program starts at  7 p.m. at the Lynnfield Meeting House on the Common.

There is no charge for club members. Non-members are welcomed to attend for $10 per person. Admission includes refreshments and one complimentary raffle ticket.

Guest’s lively presentation, along with some audience participation, will provide educational and practical information to make gardeners more aware of how their bodies move in the garden while also learning about a variety of tips and tools to bring more awareness to our posture, improve our strength and flexibility, and avoid muscle strain and injuries. Guest will also emphasize the importance of enjoying the experience and walking barefoot on your grass to connect with nature.
