YMCA of Metro North’s Road Race Series kicks off April 22

The YMCA of Metro North kicks off its 2023 Road Race Series with the Saugus Family YMCA’s Not a Walk in the Park 5K Run/Walk Saturday, April 22 at Breakheart Reservation.

This year, Bent Water Brewing is the top sponsor for the four-race series, which concludes with a race at Peabody’s Ross Park in November.

“It’s great community partners like Bent Water Brewing that help us make our 5K races fun and healthy events,” says Kathleen Walsh, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North. “Their support allows us to create a great experience for our participants, and it will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children and families in our programs.”

“We’re incredibly proud to play such a strong part in supporting the YMCA,” said Aaron Reames, co-founder and president of Lynn-based Bent Water Brewing. “As a team, we believe strongly in supporting healthy, active lifestyles in our community and beyond. The YMCA’s mission really resonates with what we strive for at Bent Water Brewing, which is giving our all to everything we do and striving to be great in all facets of our lives.”

Other series sponsors include Bertolino Foods, Casella, DSH Dermatology & Skin Care and Marathon Sports.

The Saugus race will be followed by the Demakes Family YMCA’s Stride Along the Tide 5K at Nahant Lowlands Park on May 13; the Melrose Family YMCA’s Spooky Sprint in downtown Melrose on Oct. 28, and concludes with the Torigian Family YMCA’s Livestrong at the Y 5K at Lt. Ross Park in Peabody on Nov. 18. All races start at 8:30 a.m.

The road race series attracts 1,500 participants annually, raising $80,000 for the YMCA of Metro North on average per year.

Proceeds from each race support financial assistance for children and families in YMCA of Metro North programs. The YMCA of Metro North provides more than $1.6 million in assistance each year.

The races include chip-timing, an exclusive race T-shirt, and post-race refreshments. The entry fee is $35 per race per person and $20 for children 17 and under. Metro North also offers a bundle option at a cost of $105 per person to register for all four races.
