Item Team of the Week – Lynnfield Pioneers – Boys Lacrosse

You know what I’ve been thinking? When a lacrosse team scores 24 goals in its first two games, opposing goalies better watch out. The Lynnfield boys lacrosse team (2-0) kicked off the spring with a 7-4 win against Masconomet on Friday, defending Pioneer Stadium for the first time. We could talk about Kelan Cardinal’s hat-trick, Jack Calichman’s beautiful orchestration of the offense, or James Sharkey’s physicality (not a surprise to Lynnfield football fans). That said, in the end, everyone did their job in sending the Chieftains home. The offense put up seven, the defense allowed just four, and Ben Pimentel racked up four saves. Fast forward three days. The Pioneers took on Gloucester on Monday in a familiar matchup and, well, Calichman stole the show. The Pioneer dished out 10 assists, only furthering coach Pat Lamusta’s Friday statement when he said Calichman “treasures the ball.” Micahel Murphy and Owen Considine combined for 11 goals, Pimentel recorded another nine saves, and that was all she wrote. On a side note, I love Lamusta’s energy on the sideline. He follows the ball, celebrates with his team, and seems to be highly-respected by his group. To the 2-0 Pioneers, good week.
