Rec summer programs falling into place


The Recreation Department has announced several new and returning activities to its spring and summer program of events.

Middle School track

The Lynnfield Middle School program is back for students in grades 4 – 8. The program begins on April 24 and runs through June 12. Conducted at the middle school track, sessions are held from 4:30 –  5:30 p.m. on Mondays. The cost is $150 per student.

Rec Adventures

More than two dozen Rec Adventures day trips are scheduled this summer. Early registration is advised as a few trips have already sold out. Most fees range from $45 to $75. The program begins on June 23 and runs through Aug. 18. Trips may be changed or canceled due to inclement weather or enrollment. Children will receive an orange Rec shirt on their first trip. Additional shirts may be purchased for $8.

Rec Adventures is for children entering grades 3 and up in the fall. Kids entering grades 9 and 10 are welcome to attend and can stay in their own groups. All trips leave and return to the middle school.  Most trips begin at 9 a.m. and wrap up at 4 p.m.

Let’s be Creative with Kristen Kaminski will be offered from July 10-13 for grades 1-4 and and July 17-20 for grades 5 and up from 12:15-1:45 p.m. in the Lynnfield Middle School cafeteria. Participants will explore different art mediums and design a graffiti-inspired T-shirt, create textured art on canvas, bubble art watercolor and abstract art with acrylics. The cost is $85 per person per session.

Soccer shots will be held on Saturday mornings on the back field at the middle school.  Three sessions will be offered: 9-9:30 a.m. (mini), 9:40-10:20 a.m. (classic, 3-year-olds) and 10:30-11:15 a.m. (classic, 4- and 5-year olds).

Rec Director Julie Mallett said the department will implement a new check-in procedure with membership cards, which will then be scanned to check kids in and out.

“This will hopefully alleviate the long lines,” said Mallett.

Mallett said more information will be available soon as the department “(works) out some kinks.”
