Peabody TV (PTV) has once again been recognized as a leader in the community communications industry by the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) Northeast Region.
PTV picked up seven major awards in multiple categories at the ACM Nor’easter Awards ceremony held during the annual ACM Northeast Video Festival at the North Andover Historical Society on Nov. 9.
PTV won first place in Sports Programming for its coverage of the 2021 Thanksgiving football game between Peabody High and Saugus and also won first place in Documentary for its coverage of the 2021 McCarthy Elementary School Open House.
Former City Councilor and Tanners play-by-play announcer Joel Saslaw said PTV is always looking to implement new and innovative concepts in all its coverage.
“The staff at PTV is extremely committed to covering all events that happen in our great city,” Saslaw said. “When it comes to sports programming there is no better team in my opinion. We are always thinking of new ways to highlight our student-athletes so they can get the recognition that they so deserve.
“The 2021 Thanksgiving Day football game will always be personally special to me as my mentor, Lou Cersosimo, commentated in what we now know was his last high school football game.”
PTV won a second-place award in Event Coverage-Single Camera for its coverage of the 2021 Peabody Public Schools Santa Parade and also placed second in the Science, Health and Spirituality category for the COVID-19 Vaccine Information Webinar in February 2021.
PTV’s Meet the Junior ROTC program placed second in the Historical Documentary and School/Educational Program category, while its 35 years of the Peabody International Festival program placed second in the Historical Documentary category.
PTV picked up a third place award in the PSA/Short Program category for Destination Imagination: The Unknowns program.
Formerly Peabody Access Telecommunications, PTV is a community media center serving residents of Peabody and beyond. Its mission is to stimulate cultural, artistic, and political expression through media.
PTV operates public, education, and government channels which air locally-produced programming. It also provides learning opportunities and classes for people of all ages.
PTV is a 501(c)3 nonprofit funded through revenues derived from cable television franchise fees.
Saslaw gave a shoutout to PTV Facilities Coordinator Dan Murphy and PTV Production Coordinator Stephen Valenti.
“In addition I would like to congratulate Stephen, who is always open to the new ideas I propose and to Don for all his assistance over the years,” said Saslaw. These are two men who make it happen at PATV on a continuous basis. Congratulations to everyone at Peabody TV.”
