The race is on for Select Board

LYNNFIELD — There will be only one contested race in the annual Town Election on Tuesday, April 11.

Select Board Chair Phil Crawford will face off against challenger Bob Gillon, who returned his nomination papers on Feb. 21, the final day that they could be returned.

“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the residents of Lynnfield over the past 10 years,” said Crawford, who was elected to the board in 2013 after serving five years on the Finance Committee. “I look forward to continuing my service as a member of your Select Board. My values have always been based on my compassion, and commitment to the town of Lynnfield. I take great pride in my leadership and integrity to do what is in the best interest of the town.”

Gillon, who is the treasurer of the Lynnfield Historical Society, did not respond to a request for comment.

Town Clerk Linda Emerson said that all incumbents have returned their papers and all nomination papers are certified.

Other incumbents seeking reelection are Jamie Hayman (School Committee), James Wilkie (Housing Authority), Joseph Markey (Town Moderator), Bonnie Celi (Board of Assessors), Katherine Flaws (Planning Board) and Robert Calamari (Library Trustees).

This is the second straight year that Gillon has sought a seat on the board. Last year, he challenged then-Chair Richard Dalton. Dalton was re-elected to another three-year term after defeating Gillon by a 967-386 margin.

The deadline to object to or withdraw nomination papers is Thursday, March 2 at 5 p.m.

All voting will take place at Lynnfield High School. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
