“Summer of Fun Activities” organized by Lynnfield Community Schools is coming up, where parents and guardians can register for their kids to be able to participate in half-day or full-day programs in June and August.
“We have over 100 different programs, like academics, sports, theater, arts and crafts, STEM, I could go on and on,” Morgan Festa, who was recently appointed as the new coordinator for LCS, said.
The seven weeks of summer programs, geared towards preschool kids starting at two years old to late middle school, officially start on June 24, and registration opened on April 1.
“We also have extended day childcare, which is before camp even starts, and then after, until five o’clock,” Festa said. “So there’s lots of different childcare options if families are in need of childcare, but also just if they’re looking for their child to do a specific activity.”
Festa said there are also options for high school students to either do community service hours, or work as assistants to the camps. In addition, many Lynnfield Public Schools staff members work for the programs.
“Familiar faces that kids see at school, or in the childcare programs that they’re already in through our schools, they’ll see those faces again in the summer,” Festa said.
Outside vendors also come to run some of the programs, such as Kids’ Test Kitchen and Wicked Cool Science.
Despite being the new coordinator for LCS, Festa has helped run the programs for over 12 years. Prior to her new role, Festa was also an elementary school teacher in Burlington for seven years, grew up in Lynnfield, and graduated from Lynnfield High School.
“I have experience even attending some of those programs,” Festa said. “It’s been nice to be back where I grew up where I had a great school experience. I’m also familiar with the staff that I’m working with now.”
Festa said that her goals are to continue to run and create programs that Lynnfield families are excited about, and to make it a success.
“I’m looking forward to meeting more families and creating relationships to continue the success of LCS,” Festa said.
