LTE: Jenny Sheehan is the leader our students need

To the editor:

I am writing this letter to voice my support for Jenny Sheehan for Lynnfield School Committee. To be transparent, Jenny is my sister — so, yes, I may be biased in my vote. But, there is a reason that Jenny is the most popular candidate among our teachers and school staff — a group of voices that cannot be ignored — and there is no denying that Jenny is the leader that our town desperately needs at this crucial moment.

If you aren’t already aware, Jenny is the sole reason that there is so much conversation around the schools in our town right now. She was the first to speak up last spring when no one else did. She sat alone in School Committee meetings, raising questions and voicing concerns with decisions that were being made — and never got discouraged when her challenges were quickly dismissed.

Jenny is a successful small business owner, mom of three, and active PTO member at two different Lynnfield schools. It would have been easy for her to back down and wait for someone else to step up and lead this fight — but that’s not who Jenny is. She is one of the most calm and level headed people you will ever meet, but she is also fiercely passionate, intelligent, and dedicated to whatever she sets her mind to. As other people have clearly stated, “I know Jenny will not back down when it comes to the children of this town and she will ground those decisions to facts.”

And while she originally got involved with concerns around our youngest elementary age learners, Jenny has quickly realized that the challenges and concerns are across ALL age groups and schools. She is completely dedicated to advocating for change at every level, and is more than prepared to help guide the School Committee in this movement.

Regardless of the outcome on April 9, I (as well as so many others) are so proud, and so thankful for Jenny Sheehan. This is one of the most important elections that our town has seen in recent years — and these conversations would not be happening without her involvement. And most importantly, Jenny was, and always has been, respectful, well researched and diligent in her pursuits — characteristics that are hard to find in a leader, and ones that come so naturally to her. I hope you will join me, and so many others, in supporting Jenny to rebuild the trust and transparency in our School Committee and steer the Lynnfield school system back on track.
