Applications for the Michael V. Dalton Memorial Scholarship are now being accepted.
Michael V. Dalton was a lifelong Lynnfield resident. He passed away due to an opioid overdose on Jan. 13, 2018 while in outpatient treatment. Michael can be remembered in many ways. He was athletic, intelligent, and big-hearted. It is his perseverance, however, that truly speaks best to his character and how he is most remembered by those who knew him best.
Any Lynnfield High School senior who is planning to attend a post high school educational institution who has demonstrated perseverance and/or overcome adversity in their life is eligible to apply. The deadline to apply is April 26.
Applicants must share how they have grown as a person and the lessons they learned from the experience of doing something despite difficulty. The Think of Michael Foundation has chosen to honor Michael in this way to be mindful of not only the success that can come from persevering, but more importantly the individual growth of the person that occurs as a result of such hardship. The committee recognizes that challenges come in various forms and can include, but are not limited to, academic, social, emotional disabilities, and health/wellness issues.
A brief one-page essay and faculty/staff recommendation is required. For information about the essay and to obtain an application, go to https://docs.google.com/document/d/15muKcdBmhsv5oPhyAF9EPK8r4SpSIHIQqx4jfGGcVO0/edit .
