Lynnfield Library taking community feedback for building project

The Lynnfield Public Library is seeking the community’s feedback for the New Library Building Project after receiving an extension to use its $9 million provisional grant provided by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to build a new library after the Select Board voted on it earlier this month.

The request for an extension came after residents voted against the grant at a Town Meeting in October.

The article addressed allocating funds for designing, constructing, furnishing, and equipping a new library. The article also included provisions for various project-related expenses, including demolition, hazardous materials remediation, and the creation of parking facilities.

“After the project failed to achieve the two-thirds majority needed at the October Town Meeting, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) kindly granted us an extension in early January to try again with an updated design with feedback from the community, and we now have another chance to try to meet the Town of Lynnfield’s needs with this project. We want to hear your thoughts, concerns, and ideas about the future of YOUR library,” Library Director Abigal Porter said in the library’s newsletter.

“In light of that, we hosted two public forums about the new library building project last Thursday, Jan. 11,” Porter said. “We were so happy to see many community members (and library supporters!) attend and share. We got some great feedback and wonderful ideas. We’ll be having another round of public hearings on Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., again at the Merritt Center in MarketStreet and we would love for you to join us. We will also be hosting more open houses for those unsure of the issues the current building is facing, so keep an eye out for those on the schedule.”
