Pioneers meet their match, and the end of the season

The postseason journey for Lynnfield ends at Hudson, which defeated the Pioneers, 27-13, Friday night in the MIAA state tournament.

The No. 5 Pioneers had trouble finding their offense in the first half, trailing No. 4 Hudson, 13-0, at halftime.

Not done yet. To start the third quarter, Lynnfield quarterback Tyler Adamo connected with Joey Cucciniello for a 57-yard score (13-7).

However, the one-possession game didn’t last long as Hudson’s running back broke free for a 76-yard run to give the Hawks their two-possession lead again (20-7).

Later on, Lynnfield’s defense stopped Hudson inside its 10-yard line and the Pioneers took control of the ball. Adamo found Zahir Mitchell, who showed off his speed for a 95-yard touchdown (20-13).

But that would be all.

“We had trouble with their quarterback, [who was] very dynamic. We needed a few more plays to go our way,” said Pioneers coach Pat Lamusta. “Playing from behind was a challenge.”
