One game, nine celebrations

The No. 4 Pioneers scored early and often Monday night to punch their ticket to the Round of 16 in the Division IV state tournament. Alex Schmidt (2 assists) notched her first varsity points and Jordan Calichman scored her first varsity goal in Lynnfield’s 9-0 win against Sturgis Charter East.

“Addie Connelly did a nice job in the backfield for us,” said coach Mark Vermont. “She did a nice job winning 50-50 balls and finding feet with her passes. It was also great to see Jordan Calichman get her first varsity goal.”

Clara Caulfield scored two goals, while Giada Antidormi (assist), Kaylee Barrett, Bella Carroll, Ava Damiani (assist), Bella Sykes (assist) and Emma Rose (assist) also scored.

Hannah Ozanian, Ava Cook, and Morgan Hubbard dished out assists.

Vermont said he was pleased with the way his team came out of the gate.

“It was great for us to get things going,” Vermont said. “The girls came out ready to go and they finished their opportunities. It was also important for some of our tournament call-ups to experience the tournament setting. I was pleased with their level of intensity when they were on the field.
