Lynnfield spikes the competition in perfect week

The Lynnfield high school volleyball team (9-8) celebrated its five seniors Monday night with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-20) sweep over visiting Georgetown on Senior Night. Captains Lilyana Deleo and Janhavi Jogekar, along with fellow seniors Grace D’Augusta and Leticia Marafon, were recognized before the match for their contributions. 

“I could not be more thankful and lucky to have this senior group,” Lynnfield coach Brent Ashley said. “The entire year has been a learning process for us, rebuilding our culture, and our identity after graduating six starting seniors last year. These seniors have done such an amazing job being role models within our program and building genuine relationships with our younger players.”

Chase Carangelo had 13 kills and  seven digs. Erika Pasquale had 11 kills, six digs, and three aces. DeLeo had 15 assists, seven aces, four kills and six digs.  Joglekar had 16 assists and and seven digs.

The Pioneers improved to 8-8 with a 3-1 (25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 25-16) win over host Triton Thursday, Oct. 19.

Junior Chase Carangelo led the offense with 20 kills and also racked up 10 digs.  DeLeo had a strong all-around match with 17 service points, 14 assists, eight digs, two kills and two aces. Tare finished with 11 service points, seven kills, seven digs, five aces and one block while sophomore Olivia Kelter finished with 11 digs, 14 service points and eight kills. Juniors Erin Higdon and Erika Pasquale also had good games with Higdon recording eight digs, eight service points, five aces, four assists and three kills, and Pasquale contributing 12 assists, eight kills, five service points and two aces. Sophomore Lexi Vaquerano (8 service points, 5 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs, ace), Jogelar (10 assists, 4 digs, ace, kill) and D’Augusta (3 kills, 3 digs, ace, service point) also had strong matches.

At home Oct. 17, the Pioneers made an early night of it with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 sweep over the Rams of Lynn Classical. DeLeo had a monster match with 16 assists, a match-high 16 service points, eight digs, three aces, two kills and one block. Carangelo led the offense with a match-high 18 kills, along with 14 assists, one ace and one service point. Tare and Higdon also were rock solid with Tare contributing 11 digs, 11 service points, four kills, four aces, three blocks and one assist and Higdon finishing with 14 service points, eight aces, six digs, two assists, one kill and one block. Kelter also had a strong day at the service line with seven service points, six aces, and also helped defensively with 13 digs. Pasquale (12 kills, 10 digs, 2 service points, block), Jogelar (10 assists, 4 digs) and Vaquerano (4 digs, 3 service points, 2 blocks) also contributed to the win.
