‘Different family, same brotherhood’: Ex-Lynn fire chief steps up for Peabody police

The city’s police department got an unexpected assist from former Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer last month when the now-retired firefighter blocked the path of a fleeing suspect with his vehicle.

One of the department’s officers was involved in a foot pursuit that turned physical, and, as Archer was driving on County Street, he was able to use his vehicle to stop the suspect and allow the officer to take them into custody.

An officer was hurt in the pursuit, and Archer, “no stranger to public service,” got out of his car to tend to the wounded policeman.

“We thank you for your assistance Ret. Chief Stephen Archer,” the department wrote. “Different family, same brotherhood.”
