Athlete of the Week – Anthony Nichols

You know what I’ve been thinking? If the Bishop Fenwick football team played on water this past Friday, you could have called it smooth sailing.

The Crusaders defeated Arlington Catholic 55-0 in enemy territory. The action began with four touchdowns in the first quarter for Fenwick, which – in total – ran 11 offensive plays and scored seven touchdowns.

Fenwick only played its starters for one half, but they certainly made it count – none more than senior Anthony Nichols.

The do-it-all back finished with five carries for 125 yards, four rushing touchdowns, and a kick return score. No, I didn’t mistype the numbers.

He had a hat trick of touchdowns by the first quarter’s end with rushing scores of 25, 17, and 21 yards.

Nichols exploded for a 55-yard touchdown in the second quarter (41-0), and put the bow on things with a 70-yard return touchdown in the fourth (55-0).

The Crusaders are 2-0 with wins against Marblehead – a come-from-behind victory after trailing 10-0 – and Arlington Catholic. Next, they travel to face Wilmington at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Anthony, good week. Let’s see what you do next.
