Kampersal homers twice for softball team (high school roundup)

If you like hitting, then you didn’t want to miss Lynnfield’s 13-11 win over East Boston Monday. The Pioneers traveled to the Jets’ stadium and got off to a flying start. Lynnfield led 7-0 early, and 11-4 at one stage. East Boston stormed back to tie the game at 11, however, but in the sixth inning, Catie Kampersal hit a grand slam. Fast forward to the top of the seventh — Kampersal, again, homered, this time a two-run home run. Ava Gamache had two hits — including a two-run home run — while also scoring three runs in Lynnfield’s first win of the season.

Lynnfield was led by senior Jack Calichman, who recorded 10 assists to reel in the Fishermen. Head coach Pat Lamusta said, “When Jack is on the field, good things happen.” Lamusta said it was important for the Pioneers to win ground balls, and AJ Chiaradonna did exactly that with five of them. Michael Murphy scored six goals and Owen Considine chipped in with five. Ben Pimentel was solid in net with nine saves.
