Item Team of the Week – Bishop Fenwick boys lacrosse

You know what I’ve been thinking? The Bishop Fenwick boys lacrosse team pulled out two very, very tough wins this past week. When you take on St. Mary’s and Triton in the same week, it’s certainly a test. Well, looking back, consider it a mission accomplished. In a road matchup against St. Mary’s on Wednesday, Manny Alvarez-Segee was playing like he was in the backyard, ripping six goals en route to Fenwick’s 14-10 win against the Spartans. Not to mention, the Crusaders were explosive that night – even completing a 6-1 run in the first quarter. Fast forward two days, and Fenwick did it again, besting Triton 6-5 in a nail-biter. All that said, how’d they do it? Firstly, I’ve got to point to unselfishness, exemplified by Anthony Sasso’s dish to Tyler Mullen against St. Mary’s on Wednesday – a play the pair made look easy. Secondly, it’s Fenwick’s ability to win faceoffs. With how many Luke Connolly was winning the other night, head coach Dave MacKenzie called him an “animal,” and said he wouldn’t be surprised if he earns an all-conference nod. And, lastly, I love how they’ve been winning at home, and on the road this season – as all good teams do. Fenwick lacrosse, good week.
