Item Athlete of the Week – Jaleila Aupont

You know what I’ve been thinking? What if I told you – in your first game of the season, you’ll throw a no-hitter. Well, for Fenwick softball’s Jaleila Aupont, that’s exactly what happened. In a home game against Salem Academy, it was a breeze for the Crusaders, who won 16-0 to kick off the spring. Granted, the skill differential between the programs was present, but Aupont led the way with a beautiful display of pitching. She threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and, had it not been for a walk in the first inning, it was a perfect showing. From her plethora of different pitches, to her, frankly, supremely-confident approach, Aupont brought the expression ‘swing and a miss’ to a whole new level. Postgame, coach Brian Seabury was happy with the performance, applauding Aupont for (already) showing improvement upon last season – which was a strong one for the righty. Fenwick’s offense did its job as well, and what a start it was for the Crusaders. Jaleila, good week.
