Connolly does it all for Peabody baseball

Cam Connolly did it all for the Peabody baseball team in Saturday’s 5-4 decision against Swampscott, earning the win and going 3-for-3 with two RBI.

The Tanners jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, and after the Big Blue tied things 3-3, Ryan Brunet connected on a single to plate Connolly (4-3). From there, after runs from each side, Jariel Tolentino snagged the save to put a lid on it.

BASEBALL

St. John’s Prep 7
Walpole 3

William Shaheen recorded two hits and two RBI, Marco Zirpolo collected two RBI, Nate Marston walked twice, and the St. John’s Prep baseball team cruised to a 7-3 victory against Walpole at Frates Field on Saturday.

Prep’s Joe Williams earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings and retiring six batters.

Winthrop 3

The Peabody baseball team took the diamond for the first time this season, and left it with a 7-3 win against Winthrop last week.

Mike Petro earned the win after five innings of strong pitching, while Brunet and Sam Oliveri each recorded two hits. Anthony Silva added a triple, and the Tanners are off to a 1-0 start.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 12

The St. John’s Prep lacrosse team upped its record to 2-0 Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought, 12-8 win against Acton Boxborough at home. Jimmy Ayers scored the final four goals for the Eagles to finish with six and two helpers.

Chris Esposito played well in the face off category (18 for 22), helping the Eagles maintain possession throughout the game. Nick Schibli and Greyson Ambrosh were effective on defense, while Gavin Kornitsky made 11 saves on 19 shots for Prep.

Luke Kelly, Rowan Mondello, Nate Jones, Esposito, Matt Morrow, Cam McCarthy, and Noah Brown all found twine.

Peabody 7
Danvers 6

Headlined by Peabody’s Dan Vatousios recording 14 saves, the Tanners just barely edged Danvers 7-6 at home.

If you were in the mood for offense Thursday (April 6), you didn’t have to look much further than Lucas Rotker – the Tanner found twine four times. Jake Ryan and Jaxson Vogel also scored, while Colby Dunham, Sean Rivard, and Brady Tersolo played the role of facilitators with an assist apiece.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Masconomet 11
Peabody 10

There was no shame Saturday as the Peabody girls lacrosse team was just barely edged by Masco 11-0 in a matchup of Northeastern Conference powerhouses. Madi Barrett did her thing with six goals and two assists, while Caitlin Snow stood strong between the pipes with six key saves.

Ally Bettencourt, Angela Fabbo, Brooke Lomasney, and Siobhan Smith all played well in the face off category.
