The St. John’s Prep wrestling team repeated as All-State champions this past weekend, recording 117.5 points. Rawson Iwanicki (160 pounds) repeated individually from last season, while Alex Schaeublin (113) won his first.
Iwanicki and Schaeublin each went 4-0 for the Eagles, who in total, were followed by Minnechaug (96), Milford (88), Haverhill (86), and Bridgewater-Raynham (80).
WRESTLING
The Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling season came to an end this past weekend. James Fodera (182 pounds) lost both his matches on Friday, losing to a Triton opponent (the Division III champion) 14-0, and a Taunton wrestler by pin at 3:54.
“Obviously, he was disappointed, but he can find great satisfaction in his accomplishments this season – and add placing in this tournament as a goal for next year,” LNR head coach Craig Stone said.
Fodera, a sophomore, who was unable to compete in postseason tournaments last year due to
injury, made quite an impact this season with a second place finish at the Division II sectionals and a fifth place finish in the state tournament.
James finished the season with a 34-12 overall record, along with winning the Cohasset Tournament and placing fourth at the CAL/NEC Tournament.
TRACK AND FIELD
For St. John’s Prep, Nathan Lopez – who has committed to run at Michigan – broke a school record in the 2-mile with a time of 9:01.31. Despite coming in second place to Sam Burgess of Framingham by just over two seconds, the Lynnfield native impressed as usual.
