A Lynnfield couple has been honored with the highest award in Rotary at the Rotary District 7930 annual Robert C. Wood Memorial Heroes Celebration at the Danversport Yacht Club on Nov. 10.
The award recognizes unsung heroes who have made significant contributions to his or her community, specifically, individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.
Each of the district’s 47 communities was asked to submit nominees for the honor. Honorees were presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Award, which is named after the founder of Rotary. The award honors outstanding citizens for going above and beyond in serving the community in a true demonstration of Rotary’s motto – “Service Above Self.”
Dr. Natasha Shah and Dr. Sanjay Aurora were nominated as Paul Harris Fellows by The Rotary Club of Lynnfield. The parents of two adult daughters, Shah, a neonatologist, and Aurora, a family practice practitioner, have been providing temporary housing for children who are displaced due to emergency situations.
“This often would be a call in the middle of the night with an emergency need. They provide a safe environment for these children who have been removed from their homes due to domestic, drug, and other situations,” said Lynnfield Rotary President Christine Travers. “They have supported many children over the past five years.”
