By popular request, Bill Sano returns to the Lynnfield Public Library.
Sano will present a three-part music and lecture series on composers Irving Berlin and George Gershin, “Irving Berlin and George Gershwin: Comparing two of America’s greatest composers.”
The series will discuss the differences and similarities between the two, who both were brought up in the Jewish quarters of New York City. Their compositions were featured in numerous Broadway plays. Geshwin was well known for Rhapsody in Blue, which he composed in only three weeks. Berlin’s iconic “White Christmas” was written for the Bing Crosby musical film Holiday Inn, released in 1942.
Where they differed was in longevity; Gershwin died at 38 in 1937, while Berlin died at 101 in 1989.
The schedule for this year’s series is different this year due to Thanksgiving. The final two lectures are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 and Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Meeting House.
Each session includes a break at 10:30 a.m. for refreshments. Please register in advance, especially if you would like to bring baked goods, which are always welcome.
