SALEM – After more than 105 years on the North Shore and 12 years collaborating with Mass General Hospital for Children, the North Shore Children’s Hospital is changing its name to reflect the latter partnership.
As of March 1, the North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) children’s facility is now known as Mass General for Children at North Shore Medical Center.
Hospital administrators say the name change isn’t the only difference.
“With Mass General, we will continue offering patients the same friendly and competent faces, but at the same time expand the scope of expertise available,” says Edward Bailey, M.D., NSMC’s chair of pediatrics.
Pediatric experts from Mass General provide around-the-clock care on the NSMC inpatient floors and in the pediatric emergency department. They also treat patients at the specialty outpatient clinics at NSMC and the new Mass General outpatient center in Danvers. The specialties include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, orthopaedics, pediatric surgery and rheumatology.
Patients receiving care on the North Shore now have access to many of the same services offered in Boston at the Mass General Hospital for Children, says hospital surgeon-in-chief Joseph Vacanti, M.D.
NSMC is a multi-site health system headquartered in Salem, which includes Salem Hospital, Lynn Union Hospital, Mass General for Children at North Shore Medical Center, NSMC Heart Center, NSMC Women’s Center and the physician network known as North Shore Physicians Group. NSMC and Mass General Hospital both provide care at the new outpatient center in Danvers. NSMC is a member of Partners HealthCare, which was founded by Mass General and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
