Look for Mike Garrity to once again be a focal part of the Peabody defense this fall.

By Bill Kipouras

Mr. Peanut has retired to Arizona, The Half Dollar bar has long since been leveled. The Weddings Inc. valentine heart has been broken.

Now another icon long associated with U.S. Rte. 1 will soon be nothing but a memory.
The Bel Aire diner will make way for a modern sandwich shop and other stores.

The Peabody City Council this week approved the special permit needed to allow the site to be redeveloped into a shopping plaza anchored by Red’s Sandwich Shop, a Peabody version of a well-known Salem eatery.

New Reading Program Greets Peabody Students

Posted in

PEABODY -- For the first time in generations, students at the city’s elementary schools will be on the same page when it comes to learning to read. Literally.

Principals and teachers have been preparing through the summer months for implementation of the new “Journeys” literacy reading program, a program developed by a textbook publisher after extensive research into how children learn to read.

One focal point of the new program is to make it easier for parents to be involved in teaching their children to read.
